Zaira Wasim’s Work Front And Why She Left Showbiz

Zaira became a household name after Dangal, where she played young wrestler Geeta Phogat. Her performance earned her the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress. She later starred in Secret Superstar (2017), a touching story about a teenager chasing her dream to become a singer. The film, also produced by Aamir Khan, became another big success and proved Zaira’s talent.

Her final film was The Sky Is Pink (2019), where she starred alongside Priyanka Chopra and Farhan Akhtar. Soon after, at the peak of her career, Zaira shocked everyone by announcing her decision to quit acting.

In a heartfelt Instagram note in June 2019, she said her career was not aligning with her faith. She wrote, “I want to confess that I am not truly happy with this identity, that is, my line of work. For a very long time now, it has felt like I have struggled to become someone else.”

She also spoke about how fame never felt fulfilling. “While I acknowledge with humility all the love people shower me with, I cannot emphasise enough how the praise that comes my way isn’t gratifying at all for me and how big of a test it is for me and how dangerous it is for my Iman.”

Since then, Zaira has stayed away from public life. She rarely posts online and prefers to live quietly.
