Famous Marathi Lavani singer Sulochana Chavan took her last breath on Saturday due to age-related diseases, her family said. She was 92 year old and also a recipient of Padma Shri award. She passed away at her residence in South Mumbai. Her son and Dholki player Vijay Chavan told this information to PTI. Sulochana Chavan is famously known as ‘Lavani Samradnyi’ (Queen of Lavani) and she was one of the most well-known singers in this traditional Maharashtrian musical genre as she was close to the folk theatre form ‘Tamasha’.
Her death has made many people shocked and her fans are very sad after her demise as she was one of the best singers of India. The Prime Minister Narendra Modi also shared his pain on Twitter and he shared a memory by writing, “The coming generations will remember Sulochana Tai Chavan for her monumental role in promoting the culture of Maharashtra, especially Lavani. She was also passionate about music and theatre. Pained by her demise. Condolences to her family and admirers. Om Shanti.”

Not only PM Narendra Modi, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Governor Bhagat Singh paid condolences to her death and wrote, “Deeply saddened to hear the news of the passing away of Padmashri Sulochana Chavan, Maharashtra’s oldest lavani empress, who enchanted many lavani with the magic of her deep voice. Her death has left a star in the galaxy of voices. May God rest her soul in eternal peace.”
