The trailer of Raja Shivaji has sparked a fresh controversy just days after its release. The film stars Riteish Deshmukh in the lead role and also marks his directorial venture. One particular scene showing Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj displaying the Wagh Nakh has triggered debate online, with some users questioning its historical accuracy.

The discussion escalated after BJP leader Suresh Nakhua reacted strongly on social media, accusing the makers of misrepresenting history. Riteish Deshmukh has now responded to the criticism, asking viewers to watch the film before forming conclusions.

BJP Leader Raises Objection Over A Scene In Raja Shivaji Trailer

BJP’s Suresh Nakhua took to X and accused Riteish Deshmukh of manipulating and insulting Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s history. He wrote, “The trailer of Riteish Deshmukh’s film shows Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj openly displaying the Wagh Nakh to Afzal Khan before the attack. It is a historical fact that ‘Wagh Nakh’ was concealed and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj used it only after the attack by Afzal. why is @riteishd manipulating & insulting chhatrapati shivaji maharaj’s & maharashtra’s history, legacy & pride ??? (sic).”

His post quickly gained attention, with many users joining the debate over the portrayal of historical events in the trailer.

Riteish Deshmukh Responds To Criticism

Reacting to the post, Riteish Deshmukh defended the film and urged people to wait for its release. He wrote, “Respected Sir, pls do watch the film on 1st May.. the answer to your question is there in the movie. I hope you enjoy the film with your friends and family. Jai Shivrai (sic).”

However, Suresh Nakhua replied again, questioning the strategy behind the trailer. He wrote, “So the truth is ‘inside the film’? ‘Watch the film for answers’ is fine for fiction, not history. When depicting Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the trailer itself should answer questions, not raise them. interesting strategy: market doubt, sell clarification (sic).”
