Rajinikanth daughter: Aishwarya Rajinikanth’s domestic help and driver were arrested on Tuesday for allegedly stealing gold, silver and diamond jewellery worth ₹3.60 lakh from her Chennai home. The filmmaker filed a police complaint the previous day after discovering the missing jewellery. Her maid, Easwari, reportedly stole the items by opening the locker multiple times over several days using the key to which she had access. She then enlisted the help of the driver, Venkatesan, to sell the items and buy a house, according to a police statement.
Easwari had been working for Aishwarya for 18 years
Easwari had been working for Aishwarya for 18 years and was familiar with the ins and outs of her household. She was able to steal around 100 sovereigns of gold jewellery, 30 grams of diamond jewellery, and four kilograms of silver articles. The stolen items were seized from Easwari’s home, along with documents related to the purchase of a house property by her.
Aishwarya had last worn the jewellery at her younger sister Soundarya’s wedding in 2019, and since then it was kept in a locker that had reportedly been moved around between several homes, including her ex-husband Dhanush’s apartment in 2021 and later to her father Rajinikanth’s residence. The keys to the locker remained in Aishwarya’s flat. At the time of the theft, Aishwarya was busy with the shoot of her latest film Lal Salaam.
A case under Section 381 of the IPC was registered by Teynampet Police. The jewellery pieces included diamond sets, antique gold pieces, Navaratnam sets, bangles and nearly 60 sovereigns of gold worth ₹3.60 lakh. In her complaint, Aishwaryaa had put down her two domestic workers and driver as suspects.
