New Update
Bhool Chuk Maaf on May 23

Rajkummar Rao’s comedy film Bhool Chuk Maaf will finally release in theatres on May 23. Maddock Films confirmed the new date after a legal action against the production banner. The film also stars Wamiqa Gabbi and was earlier pulled from cinemas just a day before its scheduled release.

Producer Dinesh Vijan had decided to skip the theatrical route and release the film directly on Amazon Prime Video. This last-minute change upset theatre chains, especially PVR INOX, which had already booked shows and started promotions. The chain responded with Rs 60 crore lawsuit against Maddock Films and accused them of breaching their agreement.

After a week of legal drama, both parties reached a settlement. PVR INOX withdrew the case, and Maddock Films confirmed the theatrical release.

The film will now clash with two other Bollywood releases. Shreyas Talpade and Tusshar Kapoor’s horror-comedy Kapkapiii and Sooraj Pancholi starrer historical action drama Kesari Veer will also release on the same day. While none of the three films are big releases, Maddock’s aggressive promotions and the film’s unique plot may help Bhool Chuk Maaf stand out.

Rajkummar Rao Starrer To Get Early OTT Release

Despite the theatrical release, Bhool Chuk Maaf will still arrive early on OTT. Fans can stream the film on Amazon Prime Video from June 6. This two-week window is a one-time exception and does not affect the industry’s usual eight-week OTT rule.

The story of this film follows Ranjan (played by Rajkummar Rao), who finds himself stuck in a time loop during his haldi ceremony. Wamiqa Gabbi plays the bride-to-be, and the story unfolds in the colourful backdrop of Varanasi.
