Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 actor Rajpal Yadav surrendered before Tihar Jail authorities on February 5, 2026. The surrender followed a direct order from the Delhi High Court and brought a long-running legal case to a critical end.
The development quickly became a talking point online. While the case itself has been in court for years, social media discussions focused on a different question: Why did no one from the Hindi film industry come forward to support the actor during his legal struggle?
Rajpal Yadav Cheque Bounce Case Leads To Jail Term
The case is linked to a cheque bounce dispute involving unpaid dues of around Rs 9 crore owed to M/s Murali Projects Pvt Ltd. The issue dates back to 2010, when Rajpal Yadav took a loan to produce his directorial debut, Ata Pata Laapata. When he failed to repay the amount, several cheques issued by him bounced.
This led to his conviction in seven cheque dishonour cases under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act. Although the court sentenced him to six months in jail, the punishment was temporarily suspended in 2024. The relief was granted to allow time for an out-of-court settlement.
However, the court later withdrew this relief after Yadav failed to meet multiple payment deadlines. By early 2026, records showed that only about Rs 2.5 crore had been paid against a total liability of Rs 11.9 crore.
During the final hearing, the High Court expressed serious concern over his conduct. The court stated that his behaviour “deserved to be deprecated” due to repeated and “consistent non-compliance.”
Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma noted that Yadav had taken 15 to 20 extensions over the years but failed to honour commitments, even after giving personal undertakings in court. The judge added that the law rewards compliance, not contempt, and warned against setting a wrong public example.
On the day of his surrender, Yadav’s legal team made a final mercy plea. They offered to pay Rs 25 lakh immediately and requested more time for the remaining amount. The court refused to recall its order and made it clear that the actor must serve his sentence first. Rajpal Yadav surrendered to the Jail Superintendent at around 4:00 PM.

Social Media REACTS To Rajpal Yadav’s Surrender
News of Rajpal Yadav’s surrender spread quickly on social media, especially on Reddit. One user shared the update and wrote, “Rajpal Yadav will surrender today in a cheque bounce case of 2.4cr. 200 movies & almost 30 years in the film industry, yet none of the actors came forward to help.”
The post triggered mixed reactions. Some users questioned why help should be expected at all. A user wrote, “Why should someone else be complicit in a crime?” Another said, “What sort of expectation is this? He does fraud and people should bail him out because he is a colleague? Rubbish.”
Others expressed surprise at the lack of industry support. A user wrote, “I’m surprised no one from Bollywood helped him.”
A few comments defended the actor by recalling his past actions. One user said, “From what I have heard, he really was a hero to many people, used to feed plenty of hungry people everyday in past.”
However, several users dismissed the arguments. A user said, “Help for what? To assist him in defrauding people?” One more commented, “To ek convict ko bachane ke liye bollywood ko dharna karna tha?”
On the work front, Rajpal Yadav was last seen in Varun Dhawan’s Baby John. He is next set to appear in Akshay Kumar’s Bhooth Bangla and Welcome To The Jungle. For now, however, his legal troubles have taken centre stage over his upcoming projects.
