Ranbir Kapoor has confirmed what fans were guessing for weeks. In a viral video from the teaser launch of Ramayana, the actor revealed that he will play a double role in the film. This update has quickly gone viral and increased excitement around the project.
The teaser had hinted at something unusual earlier. However, there was no official confirmation until now. With Ranbir finally speaking about it, the buzz around Ramayana has grown even stronger.
Ranbir Kapoor Confirms Playing Double Role In Ramayana
During an interview with Collider at the Los Angeles teaser launch, Ranbir Kapoor shared that he will play Lord Rama and also appear as Parshurama. Parshurama is an earlier avatar of Lord Vishnu and will be seen briefly in the film.
Ranbir said that playing two roles was challenging but exciting. He worked on changing his body language and voice for both characters. He focused on showing their different personalities and emotional depth.
The actor said, “Lord Vishnu had different avatars. Lord Rama was an avatar, and Lord Parshurama was an avatar before Lord Rama. Playing both roles was a fantastic opportunity. I spent a year preparing for Ramayana to understand who these characters are, their beliefs, and their motives.”
He also spoke about the film’s scale. According to him, the action and visuals are “nothing less than Lord of the Rings.” He added that the team has shot “six hours of epic visuals.”

Ramayana Teaser, Cast And Controversy
The Ramayana teaser also shows an important moment from the epic. It features the meeting between Rama and Parshurama after Rama marries Sita. In the story, Parshurama challenges Rama but later realises his true identity and steps back.
The film has a big star cast. Sai Pallavi will play Goddess Sita, while Yash will be seen as Ravana. Sunny Deol takes on the role of Hanuman, and Ravie Dubey plays Lakshman. Arun Govil will appear as King Dashratha.
Other actors include Kajal Aggarwal, Rakul Preet Singh, Kunal Kapoor, Adinath Kothare, Sheeba Chaddha and Indira Krishnan in key roles.
However, the teaser has received mixed reactions. It was released on Hanuman Jayanti in April 2026. Many viewers criticised the visual effects. Some called the VFX “cartoonish” and “video game-esque.” A few even compared it to Adipurush, which had faced similar criticism.
There was also debate over the teaser launch in Los Angeles before India. Some fans felt that a film based on Indian mythology should have been launched in India first.
The casting has also been discussed widely. Some people questioned Ranbir Kapoor’s suitability for the role of Lord Rama based on his past image.
