Ranveer Singh records statement in nude photo-shoot case

New Delhi: The Mumbai Police on Monday recorded the statement of Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh in a case registered against him for posting nude photographs of himself on social media, an official said.

A First Information Report (FIR) was registered against Singh at Chembur police station here last month on the basis of a complaint filed by an office-bearer of a non-governmental organisation (NGO).

Around seven in the morning on Monday, the actor showed up before the investigating officer, and his statement was taken down, the official said. The official stated that Singh left the police station around 9.30 am and that the actor will be called again if necessary.

The complainant stated that the actor’s photographs “hurt the sentiments of women in general and insulted their modesty.” According to a previous official, the police had filed a FIR against Singh based on the complaint under several sections of the Indian Penal Code, including sections 292 (sale of obscene books, etc.), 293 (sale of obscene objects to young people), 509 (word, gesture, or act intended to insult a woman’s modesty), and provisions of the Information Technology Act. Award-winning actor Ranveer Singh is well-known for his work in the movies “Bajirao Mastani,” “Padmaavat,” and “Gully Boy.”
