Uunchai: Actor Salman Khan wanted to be a part of Uunchai but director Sooraj Barjatya politely turned down his offer as he wanted a new cast. The film, stars Amitabh Bachchan, Anupam Kher, Boman Irani, Sarika and Neena Gupta and is set to hit cinemas on November 11.
Salman rose to fame with Sooraj Barjatya’s Main Pyar Kiya in 1988.

New cast
Recently, the filmmaker shared that the Dabangg star was interested in being a part of Uunchai, but Sooraj wanted a new cast, so he refused. Uunchai, which will hit cinemas on November 11, features Amitabh Bachchan, Boman Irani, Danny Denzongpa, Anupam Kher and Neena Gupta.
Salman Khan and Sooraj Barjatya have given numerous hits together like Hum Aapke Hain Koun, Hum Saath Saath Hain and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo. The Bollywood superstar’s character’s name in all his Sooraj Barjatya film was Prem, and many feel this was a lucky charm for the filmmaker.
Trailer launch
At the trailer launch event of Uunchai’s in Mumbai, Sooraj Barjatya shared he had to say no to Salman Khan as he wanted a different cast for the film. He said, “Like I said, ismein maine sab bandhan tod diye. Ek charm tha Prem rakho toh chal jaye, but ismein sab bandhan tod diye maine (As I have mentioned, I have broken all barriers for this film. I had Prem as my lucky charm but not this time).”
He further added, “When I told Salman (Khan) that I am making this film, he said, ‘Why are you going to hills to make this film?’ Then later he said, ‘I can do this film’ but I said no because I wanted a different cast.”
Family drama
Uunchai has been directed by Sooraj Barjatya, who is known for making family dramas. This film marks his return to direction after his 2015 film Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, which featured Salman Khan and Sonam Kapoor Ahuja. Starring Amitabh Bachchan, Boman Irani and Anupam Kher in lead roles, Uunchai is loosely based on Graham Swift’s Booker Prize-winning novel Last Orders.
Uunchai releases on November 11, 2022, in theatres.
