Sara Ali Khan opens up about comparisons with Karisma Kapoor ahead of Coolie No 1 release

Actress Sara Ali Khan is all set for the release of her much-anticipated film Coolie No 1 which is a remake of David Dhawan's 1995 film. Since it's a remake, it is obvious for people to draw comparisons between Sara and Karisma, who played the female lead in the original film.

Addressing the same, the newbie has said that she does not stand a chance next to the veteran actress as Karisma is an institution in herself.

“I think one is not trying to copy Karisma maam or fill in her shoes because she is an institution in herself. While she is extremely inspiring, I would not dare to try to ape her because I would not be able to do so, even if I tried very hard. The only attempt is to , kind of, try and bring to this film, something of my own. For me, it was not as much about following her footsteps, as it was about performing under David sir’s guidance, chemistry with Varun and things like that," Sara told Bollywood Hungama.

“As far as passive or active character, or screentime is concerned. For me, as an actor, it is exciting to be part of exciting films. I want to be able to do different genres of films. I want to tell interesting stories. In the end, I want to do films that make you laugh. I don’t care whether you laugh at my jokes, or Varun’s or Paresh’s. You are laughing, watching my film. That is what matters for me,” she added.

Coolie No. 1 features Sara opposite Varun Dhawan, who has also been subjected to comparisons with OG Govinda. Not only songs and dialogues, but the script of the origianl film has also been adapted in the new film. The film is slated to stream on Amazon Prime Videos from December 25.

Sara Ali Khan made her acting debut with 2019 film Kedarnath opposite Sushant Singh Rajput. The same year also saw her second film Simmba wherein she was given a very little screen space. Fans held high hopes from Sara in Imtiaz Ali directorial Love Aaj Kal but neither she nor the film met the expectations. Now, it would be interesting to see whether she can prove her mettle in Bollywood with masala entertainer Coolie No. 1.

Meanwhile, currently, Sara is shooting for her upcoming film Atrangi re wherein she will co-star Dhanush. Directed by Anand L Rai, the film will also see Akshay Kumar in a cameo role.
