Selfiee Advance Bookings: Selfiee, a drama featuring Akshay Kumar and Emraan Hashmi, directed by Raj Mehta and co-starring Diana Penty and Nushrratt Bharuccha, is scheduled for release in theaters tomorrow. The film's trailers, songs, and dialogue promos have been well-received, and the multi-city promotion campaign was well-managed. However, the film has not generated enough buzz and curiosity to translate into ticket sales, having sold only about 6,500 tickets in three national chains as of 10 pm. This number is lower than any other Akshay Kumar film that released in theaters last year, as well as last week's release Shehzada, which sold around 30,000 tickets.
Selfiee is releasing in approx. 2,000 screens
The full-fledged advance bookings for Selfiee opened on Wednesday, and the film is releasing in around 2,000 screens. Although pre-bookings are low, the late opening of advance bookings may reduce negative coverage and help improve the film's momentum. Akshay Kumar films usually receive good spot bookings, and the actor will need them to ensure a respectable day one collection, which is currently projected at Rs 4 crores only.
Promotional campaigns did not affect much
The audience is becoming more selective about the films they watch on the big screen and those they can wait to watch digitally, indicating the need for the industry to produce films that resonate with viewers. Selfiee seems to fall in the second category, as evidenced by the underwhelming response to advance bookings. The film's long promotional campaign has also faced scrutiny for reducing curiosity towards the film and overshadowing its subject matter.
The outlook for team Selfiee is not optimistic at the moment, but a better on-the-day performance may give the film a chance to survive. The only silver lining is that it will not face competition in the coming week, allowing for a long open run until Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar is released in the second week of March.
