Shah Rukh Khan turns a year older on 2 November, and fans are gearing up for massive celebrations. From midnight gatherings outside his residence to viral fan edits, the buzz is already loud. But behind the iconic stardom and global fan love lies a story rooted in struggle, emotion and pure determination.
Before he became the KING OF BOLLYWOOD, Shah Rukh Khan was a young boy from Delhi with dreams, but not of films. In fact, becoming an actor was never his plan. He was winning hearts on television with shows like Fauji and Circus, yet cinema was not on his radar at first. His friend, actor and mentor Viveck Vaswani recently shared how life took a dramatic turn for Shah Rukh after a personal heartbreak.
Shah Rukh Khan Initially Had No Plans To Become An Actor
In a chat with Moneycontrol, Viveck Vaswani recalled the early days when Shah Rukh moved to Mumbai with very little and nowhere to stay. Viveck said, “I was the man who gave him a house to stay for two years. He didn’t have a place to stay. He was living out of Aziz Mirza’s office while acting in Circus. I told him it’s more comfortable in my house.”
This was a time when Shah Rukh was still figuring out his future. He was dealing with family responsibilities and his mother’s illness in Delhi. His focus was on home, not films.
According to Viveck, Shah Rukh’s mother’s death became the turning point. He said, “He didn’t want to do films. It was only after his mother died that he decided he would like to.” That emotional loss pushed him to dream bigger. He wanted to make her proud. And so, the journey towards films began.
Viveck added, “I don’t have to give him a film, I had to give him a career.” They built a slow and strategic plan together.
How SRK Entered Into Films With Side Roles
Shah Rukh took roles in films like King Uncle, Dil Aashna Hai and Chamatkar. He was not the hero in every film, but each role added value. His aim was to become saleable (someone producers trusted and audiences noticed).
Then came films like Deewana, Baazigar and Darr. These roles broke norms and showed a new kind of hero. Viveck shared, “Even before DDLJ, he was already a superstar.” Shah Rukh had bought his first flat, his first car and had a strong place in Bollywood.
For the unversed, Shah Rukh Khan recently won the National Award for Jawan. He is currently working on King, an action thriller with Siddharth Anand. The cast includes Suhana Khan, Deepika Padukone, Rani Mukerji, Abhishek Bachchan and Anil Kapoor.
