Shah Rukh Khan sells King distribution rights for Rs 250 cr, but fans question the deal. Here’s why netizens call it risky.

The latest buzz around the project has sparked a debate online, especially after reports revealed a massive distribution deal that has left fans divided.

Shah Rukh Khan Starrer King’s Massive Rs 250 Cr Deal Grabs Attention

According to recent industry reports, Pen Marudhar has acquired the all-India theatrical distribution rights of King for a staggering Rs 250 crore. This makes it one of the biggest deals of the year and reflects the immense box office pull of Shah Rukh Khan.

A trade source shared, “Pen Marudhar have acquired the theatrical distribution rights of King for a sum of Rs 250 crores. The distributor has a long-standing association with Shah Rukh Khan’s banner, having released films like Jawan, Dunki, Zero, Badla, Ittefaq and many more.”

Industry insiders believe that securing a strong distribution partner was crucial given the intense competition expected during that period. The source added, “Shah Rukh Khan was looking for a strong distribution partner to navigate the competitive window, and he is looking at a wide theatrical release in the month of December all across the country.”

Despite the impressive numbers, social media reactions have been far from unanimous. Many users have raised concerns about whether the deal is financially viable.

One Reddit user pointed out, “Jawan was sold at the same price.” Another commented, “PEN will make a huge loss on this deal. There’s no way King will make more than 600 cr net.”

A third user bluntly wrote, “Disaster deal.” Meanwhile, another added, “Pen isn’t good at all in distribution. They’re the reason RRR couldn’t make much in Hindi.” A netizen tweeted, “Yrf ko dena chahiye tha yeh zyada screens le paayega?”

King Set To Clash With Avengers Doomsday

King is set to release during Christmas 2026, a period known for big-ticket releases. However, this time the competition is unusually intense, with major Hollywood films like Avengers: Doomsday, Dune 3, and Jumanji also eyeing the same festive window.

This crowded schedule has raised concerns about screen allocation and audience share, both of which could impact overall box office performance.

Directed by Sujoy Ghosh and produced by Siddharth Anand, King is mounted on a massive scale. The film reportedly carries a budget of around Rs 350–400 crore, making it one of the most expensive Indian films ever.

The story is said to unfold across two timelines, with Shah Rukh Khan playing a complex underworld mentor. The film also features his daughter Suhana Khan as his protege. Adding to the intrigue, the narrative showcases both a younger and an older version of SRK, achieved using advanced de-ageing technology.

The ensemble cast further boosts the film’s appeal, with names like Deepika Padukone, Rani Mukerji, Abhishek Bachchan and Arshad Warsi attached to the project.
