Shamshera Box Office Collection Day 1: Ranbir Kapoor starrer earns less than Samrat Prithviraj; Not a great year for Yash Raj Films?

Shamshera Box Office Collection Day 1: So Ranbir Kapoor’s first release in four years, the big-budget film, the comeback film of ‘Saawariya star’ opened ‘poorly’ at 10.25 crore domestically on day one. Indeed a disappointing number, given the film’s scale and the fact that it features big names like Ranbir Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt.
Shamshera has definitely failed to live up to the expectations and according to some of the trade reports this masala entertainer needs to reach 20 crore net plus on Sunday, to be in the race and gain some profits.

Day-1 Box Office Collection

While Film trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted, “#Shamshera sends shock waves within the industry, as Day 1 ends on an underwhelming note… National chains are poor, with single screens below expectations… All eyes are on Day 2 and 3 biz… Fri ₹ 10.25 cr. #India biz.”

Not a great year for Yash Raj Films?

So according to Box Office India report, ‘Shamshera’ has a 15-20% low opening and is pretty much on the same or to be precise lower than ‘Samrat Prithviraj’. While Shamshera’ opened at Rs 10.25 crores, Samrat Prithviraj earned Rs 10.7 crore on its opening day.

While this year, Yash Raj Films is celebrating the 50th year of its inception. But none of the three movies, be it Shamshera, Samrat Prithviraj and Jayeshbhai Jordaar could show strong openings at the box office. In fact, ‘Samrat Prithviraj’ along with ‘Jayeshbhai Jordaaar’ were declared flops.
Shamshera also stars Vaani Kapoor in the lead role. And while people loved Vaani’s character and acting in her last film (which was ‘Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui’) but this time it seems that even her presence could not leave a good impact on the audience.

The reason for such disappointing numbers?

Well according to some experts, Shamshera is Performing poorly, due to its trailer. (Yes, That’s Right!)
The constant comparison with films like ‘Thugs of Hindostan and ‘Baahubali’ turned out to be a bad start to the film. And after the release, all that the audience said was, that nothing was able to leave an impact. Be it the visuals, the script, the dialogues or the direction.
So was Shamshera a bad choice for a comeback?
