ICYMI: Shark Tank India Season 2: ‘What a Freakin mess’, Anupam Mittal lambasts pitchers burning crores every year

Cavity ho gayi sun kar, Anupam’s sarcastic jibe at oral care brand picthers

Pitchers listed that their brand is free of Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLF), sulphate and paraben. This impressed many sharks as most oral care brand in India use SLS, despite its proven harmful effects such as mucosal desquamation, irritation or inflammation of oral mucosa. In addition to toothpaste, Perfora also has other oral care commodities including smart electric tooth brush, mouth wash and teeth whitening products. Tushar and Jatin also impressed sharks with their packaging. In fact, their flavored toothpaste managed to earn praises from Anupam Mittal. If you watch Shark Tank, you would know it makes for a rare case.

In exchange of 1 per cent equity of their company, the pitchers asked for Rs 80 lakhs. This attracted a funny comment from Anupam, who said, “Mere ko cavity ho gayi sun kar,” referring the valuation is quite high. But, hang in there, he had more to say. Further, when the pitchers presented sharks with their products, Anupam asked, Jatin to show his teeth. “Daant dikhao,” he said. Clearly, pitcher failed to impress Anupam with his teeth as the shark further commented, “abhi thoda kaam hai (there’s still work left to be done).” He then suggested pitcher to use Perfora.

Namita Thapar, Vineeta Singh and Peyush Bansal make the deal

Peyush Bansal had proposed an all-shark deal, however, Anumpam Mittal and Aman Gupta dropped out of it. Peyush then partnered with Namita Thapar and Vineeta Singh for the deal. The three then settled for Rs 80 lakh in exchange of Rs 2.5 per cent equity instead of 1 per cent originally offered by the pitchers.

Namita, Vineeta and Peyush were quite happy at the end of the deal, with Namita having firm believe that the brand will earn them good money.
