Shark Tank India Season 2: Ankit Aggarwal, a 37-year-old entrepreneur, always knew he was meant to start his own business. Even as a college student, he would spend his time in his dorm room brainstorming startup ideas instead of searching for a job like his peers. Today, Ankit is the founder and CEO of Unstop, an early talent engagement and hiring platform based in Delhi that has over 5 million users and generated $2.5 million in revenue this year.
Ankit refused to take Rs. 5 crore deal in Shark Tank India Season 2
Recently, Unstop made headlines after turning down a Rs 5 crore offer on Shark Tank from Amit Jain, CEO and co-founder of Cardekho. He bagged the deal from four sharks Amit Jain, Aman Gupta, Namita Thapar and Anupam Mittal for Rs. 2 crore in the exchange of 4 percent equity in the company.
Ankit Aggarwal’s journey to build Unstop
Unstop’s journey began in a hostel room where Ankit started a blog to share information about various events and competitions. Ankit pursued his MBA at IMT Ghaziabad and won a 100% scholarship to attend one of Harvard Business School’s coveted leadership programs.
After being contacted by Reliance and the Aditya Birla Group to start an employer branding initiative for students, Ankit transformed his blog into a website in 2017. Unstop began collaborating with schools, incorporating various fields like engineering, arts, and commerce in 2020. By 2021, Unstop had evolved from a simple listing platform to a versatile platform. It started allowing users to create web pages, make payments, do coding, and assessments.
Today, Unstop boasts over 5 million users, 10,000 colleges, and more than 1,000 companies listing their opportunities. Ankit’s net worth is estimated to be over Rs. 45.3 crore, and he has been recognized as a TEDx speaker and Forbes-GMI Top 100 Great People Managers. His success is a testament to his determination to turn his passion for entrepreneurship into a reality.
