Popular Indian comedian Kapil Sharma’s cafe, Kap’s Cafe, located in Surrey, Canada, was targeted by gunfire for the second time this month, raising serious concerns over his safety and the growing influence of organized crime and extremist elements abroad.
The recent firing incident, which occurred this week, was allegedly carried out by gang members affiliated with Gurpreet Singh alias Goldy Dhillon and Lawrence Bishnoi, both of whom claimed responsibility via social media posts. In a purported video of the attack, at least 25 gunshots can be heard, with a voice warning, “We had called the target, but he didn’t hear the ring, so we had to take action… the next action will be taken soon in Mumbai.”
Threats Expand Beyond Canada
According to sources in Indian security agencies, including the Mumbai Police, the threats are being taken seriously, and investigations are underway to assess any credible danger to Kapil Sharma’s family or properties in Mumbai.
This incident comes shortly after the first attack on July 10, when unknown assailants opened fire at the cafe while employees were present. No injuries were reported, but bullet holes were found on windows and parts of the premises were damaged.
Extremist Links and Allegations of Insult
The July 10 attack was initially linked to a Khalistani extremist angle. A Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) member alleged that remarks made during one of Kapil Sharma’s comedy shows had offended the Nihang Sikh community, sparking backlash from separatist elements.
Kaps Cafe Responds
Despite the attacks, Kap’s Cafe released a statement affirming its commitment to remaining a “symbol of warmth and community” and refusing to be intimidated by violence. The local Canadian police have also acknowledged the threats and are coordinating with Indian agencies.
