Priyanka Chopra is once again keeping it real about her sleep struggles. In a recent Instagram Story, she shared a late-night meme that read: “Sleeping less than 8–9 hrs is associated with living longer, decreased risk of dementia, improved mood and better immune system. Meanwhile, me still awake at 2 am.” While humorous, it reflects a common issue of being awake late despite needing rest.

The SSMB 29 actress has earlier spoken about how motherhood changed her sleep completely. She now calls herself the “lightest sleeper” and says even a small sound from her daughter Malti Marie wakes her. Her packed schedule (from global travel to back-to-back shoots) only adds to the challenge.

But what’s the real impact of sleeping less?

Priyanka Chopra Stays Awake Till 2: Poor Sleep Habits Can Affect Your Body And Mind

Dr. Krishna Veni, a consultant pulmonologist and sleep specialist at Medway Group of Hospitals, Chennai, warns that skipping sleep is risky. “Many students and professionals sacrifice rest for work or late-night chats. This builds stress and increases the risk of high blood pressure, heart disease, obesity, and hormone problems,” she says.

Lack of sleep also lowers morning focus and energy, making everyday tasks feel harder. Over time, constant sleep loss can even lead to long-term conditions like metabolic syndrome.

Key Advice To Improve Sleep Without Changing Your Life Too Much

1. Make Sleep Quality Count

Even if you can’t sleep 8 hours, try for 5–6 hours of deep, restful sleep. Stick to a sleep routine, avoid screens at night, and keep your room cool and quiet.

2. Nap Wisely

A short nap (10–30 minutes) in the early afternoon can refresh your mind. Just don’t nap late in the day or for too long.

3. Balance Your Lifestyle

Eat light, stay hydrated, and get some morning sun. Caffeine is okay in small amounts — but skip it after lunchtime.

4. Catch Up When You Can

Try “sleep banking” -  catching up on missed sleep over the weekend or on a free day. This can ease short-term sleep loss.

While a few late nights may be harmless, long-term sleep deprivation isn’t. Experts urge everyone, including celebs like Priyanka Chopra, to make rest a health priority. Because when sleep suffers, the entire body pays the price.
