A viral video has once again put Sonakshi Sinha into the spotlight after she opened up on online abuse and harassment. The actress spoke about how actors and film critics are being attacked online. Her comments came soon after critics were allegedly targeted for negative reviews of Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar.
Sonakshi made these remarks during a public appearance in Mumbai. A short clip of her speaking to the media soon went viral. In the video, she shared her concern about how easily people attack others online, often without any fear or consequence.

Speaking about the issue, Sonakshi said, “Jo cheez jisse mujhe aur dikkat hai (the thing that troubled me) is this open attack on people online.”
She explained that this problem affects everyone in the public eye. “Jo sabke saath hota hai, actors ke saath bhi hota hai, abhi toh critics ke saath hai (It happens with everyone from actors to critics). I think that is something that we should all work towards putting an end to, and try to figure out a solution to that. Ke koi bhi kahin bhi baithkar aapko kuch bhi bol rahe hai, and there isn’t much people can do anything about it (that anyone from any part of the world can say anything to you and you can’t do anything about it). I feel we need to have strict laws to control it and keep a check on it.”
Her words quickly triggered mixed reactions online. Some users agreed with her and supported her demand for stricter cyber laws. Others felt she was trying to shut down criticism. Several Reddit users reacted strongly to the viral video.

Outside this controversy, Sonakshi’s personal life has also drawn attention. She is married to actor Zaheer Iqbal. The couple dated for seven years before getting married. They first met at a party hosted by Salman Khan in 2013. They grew closer in 2017 during the after-party of Tubelight.
In 2024, they registered their marriage under the Special Marriage Act at Sonakshi’s Mumbai home. A reception followed for close friends from the film industry. Since then, the couple has often shared travel photos online.
On the work front, Sonakshi entered Telugu cinema earlier this year with Jatadhara. It is a supernatural thriller directed by Abhishek Jaiswal and Venkat Kalyan. The film starred Sudheer Babu and Shilpa Shirodkar. It did not perform as expected at the box office. Sonakshi was also seen in Nikita Roy, which released in theatres on July 18.
