South Indian movies: Bollywood that has been ruling the film industry in India, seems to be gradually losing its sheen. Film made in the South -- Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam -- have recently emerged as a big threat to Bollywood in terms of commercial success. South Indian films earned around Rs 2,400 crore last year against Rs 800 crore made by Hindi films.

Seven of the top 10 grossing films in the last two years were from the south. KGF 2, RRR, Ponniyin Selvan 1, Vikram, and Kantara were some of the biggest grossers. And now once again several south films that have pan-India release in 2023, may pose a big threat to Bollywood once again.

Michael

Michael, starring Sandeep Kishan and Setupathi in lead roles, is set for release on February 3. Director Ranjeet Jaikodi released the film’s first teaser in Hindi recently. An action stunt film, Michael is expected to do well on box office.

Shakuntalam

Samantha Prabhu and Dev Mohan starrer Shakuntalam will hit the screens on February 17. Based on Kalidas’ Abhigyan Shakuntalam, the film will have a worldwide release.

Ponniyin Selvan 2

Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan 2 is the most awaited films of 2023. With Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Karthi, Chian Vikram and Jairam Ravi in lead roles, it releases on April 28.

Salaar

Salaar starring Prabhas directed by Prashant Neil, is also one of the most awaited film this year. Prashant’s KGF 2 was the biggest hit of 2022 and Salaar is expected to surpass all records.

Adipurush

Pranhas’ Adipurush will have a pan-India release. Starring Saif Ali Khan, Kriti Sanon and Sunny Kaushal in lead roles, the fil will release on June 16.

Kabza

Kabza starring Kichha Sudeep, Upendra and Shriya Saran, is a film on the underworld and the story begins in the period between 60s-80s.

Pushpa The Rule

Telugu film Pushpa – The Rise was the highest grosser of 2021. Now the second part Pushpa The Rule is expected to break all records this year. With Allu Arjun and Rashmika Mandanna in lead roles, it is expected to exceptionally well in the Hindi belt.

Vikram’s Thangalan is a big budget action film and will have a pan-India release. With Malvika Mohanan and Parvati in lead roles, the film releases later this year.
