SSKTK Box Office Collection Day 1: Varun Dhawan-Janhvi Kapoor Starrer Benefits From Dussehra Holiday, Opens Better Than Param Sundari

Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari opened at Rs 9.25 cr on Day 1. Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor's film took a decent start despite mixed reviews.

Shashank Khaitan’s Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari (SSKTK) hit theatres on October 2 and benefited from Dussehra-Gandhi Jayanti holiday. Starring Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor, the film earned around Rs 9.25 crore net on its first day in India. While it is not on the level of Kantara Chapter 1 or War 2, the opening gives hope for romantic comedies in theatres after Covid.

Romcoms have struggled at the box office in recent years, but hits like Saiyaara showed that audiences still enjoy love stories on the big screen. Saiyaara had a huge opening of over Rs 20 crore, which Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari could not match. Still, trade experts are optimistic. Positive word of mouth could help the film grow over the weekend and possibly cross double-digit collections on Saturday and Sunday.

The film has performed better than Janhvi Kapoor’s previous release, Param Sundari, which opened at Rs 7.25 crore and earned Rs 51.28 crore in India. Varun Dhawan’s last film, Baby John, did even worse, collecting only Rs 39.5 crore. In this context, the first-day numbers for Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari are encouraging.

The film had more than 3,000 shows across India. Delhi NCR led with 711 screenings, followed by Mumbai with 535 shows. Overall occupancy averaged 34.08%. Morning and afternoon shows filled 14.77% and 38.93% of seats, while evening and night shows reached 43.65% and 38.95%.

About SSKTK

Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari (SSKTK) is a colourful romantic comedy about two ex-lovers who meet again at a wedding in Delhi. They try to outsmart each other, which leads to fun, drama, and mix-ups. Amid the chaos, a new love story begins. The film blends humour, romance, and family emotions in a festive, vibrant setting.

Directed by Shashank Khaitan and co-written with Ishita Moitra, the film is produced by Dharma Productions and Mentor Disciple Entertainment. The cast includes Varun Dhawan, Janhvi Kapoor, Sanya Malhotra, Rohit Saraf, Maniesh Paul, Abhinav Sharma, and Akshay Oberoi. With a runtime of 135 minutes, it offers over two hours of lighthearted, colourful entertainment.

The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) gave the movie a U/A rating. Nearly 60% of the kissing scenes were trimmed to meet guidelines, but the film keeps its playful and festive energy.

Despite mixed reviews and a controversial song remake, it opened better than expected. Khaitan and the cast can now look forward to seeing how the film performs over the weekend.
