Suga of BTS drops first solo album D-DAY, title track Haegeum is intense. Watch video

Suga: Suga of BTS is unstoppable. He dropped his first official solo album D-DAY along with the music video for the title track Haegeum. The video only shows once again why the poetic genius of Agust D (Suga’s moniker) is unparalleled.

The album completes Suga’s trilogy that started with Agust D, followed by D-2 and now his first official solo album, D-Day. The title track Haegeum featuring Suga takes forward his narrative from the previous two mixtapes.

Haegeum in Korean means a traditional music instrument. The song is solely written and produced by Suga himself. The use of traditional beats to the poetic rap song stands out. Shot aesthetically in Thailand, it shows Suga in a dual role, speaking about the duality of oneself. He speaks about being slaves to capitalism and different definitions of freedom in the same breath.

Agust D questions society

The lyrics are clear and show Agust D’s journey of understanding himself, more than anyone else. Suga questions the society where freedom of expression means changes from people to people, depending on their needs. “Freedom of expressions could be reason for somebody’s death, could you still consider that freedom?” He asks followed by reiterating how human beings have become slave to capitalism and “flexing selfishness.”

“Slaves to capitalism, slaves to money, slaves to hatred and prejudice, slaves to YouTube, slaves to flexing selfishness and greed have gone off the rails,” Agust D reiterates.

10 tracks in album

The song is a part of Suga’s first solo album, D-Day, which is now available on all platforms. The album has a total of 10 tracks and collaborations with fellow BTS member j-hope on “HUH?!,” IU on “People Pt.2,” Geugya on “ꕹ야” and Woosung of The Rose and the late Ryuichi Sakamoto on “Snooze.”

D-Day will be followed by a documentary featuring Suga titled, SUGA: Road To D-Day. The documentary drops on Disney + Hotstar on April 21, 2023. Suga will follow this album release with a solo world tour which begins from April 26.
