Sunjay Kapur: ‘60 Cr Salary… But Only Rs 1 Cr In Bank?’ Industrialist’s Mother ACCUSES His Wife Priya Sachdev Of ‘Hiding’ His Wealth

The battle over Sunjay Kapur’s estate has intensified as his mother accuses Priya Sachdev of hiding his wealth. She claims Sunjay earned Rs 60 crore but had only Rs 1 crore in his bank accounts. Know shocking details!

The fight over the estate of late industrialist Sunjay Kapur has grown even more intense. What started as a dispute over his will has now turned into a serious family clash. His mother, his widow Priya Sachdev and his children from his marriage to Karisma Kapoor are all caught in the middle.

Mother Of Sunjay Kapur ACCUSES Priya Sachdev Of Hiding His Wealth

On Monday, his mother (Rani Kapur) made a strong claim in the Delhi High Court. She said that Priya Sachdev, Sunjay’s wife at the time of his death, hid important details about his wealth. This comes while Karisma’s children (Samaira and Kiaan) have already accused Priya of submitting a forged will.

Rani Kapur believes the numbers do not match. Her lawyer said that Sunjay earned around Rs 60 crore as salary. Yet the bank balance shown in court is only a little over Rs 1 crore. She says this gap is too big to ignore.

Her lawyer, Senior Advocate Vaibhav Gaggar, accused Priya of hiding assets. He told the court that there has been a “massive concealment” of Sunjay’s wealth. The lawyer also suggested that some money may have been moved out of India.

He said, “Massive concealment. This house (farmhouse in Delhi’s Rajokri area) was built by my late husband. There are more than 50 pieces of artwork there… This gentleman (Sunjay Kapur) had no life insurance, no rental income and mutual funds? Just his salary was Rs 60 crore, and we are saying that he has only Rs 1.7 crore in his accounts.”

He also asked the court to check the financial records of both Sunjay and Priya for the last two years. “My Lady may seek details of 2 years, not just of Mr Kapur but also of Defendant No 1 (Priya Kapur), because the money has moved. Any interim order must be in the nature of status quo ante because the money has moved across borders, potentially.”

On Priya’s Claims That Men Leave Assets To Their Wives

He then responded to Priya’s earlier claim. Priya had said that men in the Kapur family usually leave their assets to their wives. She gave the example of Sunjay’s father leaving everything to Rani Kapur. But Rani’s lawyer did not agree with her.

He said, “How can you compare the two? She (Priya Kapur) was married to Sunjay for seven years. This was his third and her second marriage. I was married to my husband for forty years. The distinction doesn’t end here. Our Will was registered. The witness to our Will was a person whom my husband had known for 30 years. Here, the witness says he wasn’t even associated with the company before 2022.”

These arguments were presented before Justice Jyoti Singh. She is hearing the case filed by Karisma Kapoor’s children. They want the court to stop Priya from creating any third-party rights over Sunjay’s assets. Their main case states that the will Priya submitted is forged and meant to exclude them.

Earlier in November, the court issued notices to Priya and the executor of the will. They were asked to reply within three weeks. The court will now hear the matter again on December 3.

Sunjay Kapur was the chairman of Sona Comstar, a major auto parts company. He passed away in June in London while playing a polo match. The businessman was married to Karisma Kapoor from 2003 to 2016 and had two children with her. He married Priya Sachdev in 2017.
