Blurr

Blurr: It’s the season of threillrs in Bollywood. Taapsee Pannu continues to rule the genre. Her latest OTT release, Blurr, which is also her first as producer, is a psychological thriller. Cleverly written, the film has been brilliantly shot. Camera work is terrific, background score is thrilling, enough to give you jump-scares. Blurr is an official Hindi remake of Spanish film Julia's Eyes, an exciting whodunit.

The film is set in the hills of Uttarakhand. Gayatri (Taapsee Pannu) is trying to find the person who killed her twin sister Gautami (also Taapsee). She believes her sister has been murdered even though cops are convinced Gautami died by suicide after suffering from depression due to her visual impairment. Gayatri does not let them close this case. Her husband Neil (Gulshan Devaiah) who does accompanies her in the journey, his evident reluctance makes him an obvious suspect.

Taapsee has a double role

Taapsee has been brave in backing a project like this as producer.  She has a double role that she blends well with multiple emotions. Some scenes are patchy and imperfect, but Taapsee manages to let you look past that. It also gives a feel as if it’s an extension of Taapsee from Badla, Game Over, Haseen Dillruba, Loop Lapeta and Dobaara. Clearly, she has found her own footing in this genre.

Gulshan  complements Taapsee well in the limited part he has. Kruttika Desai has a cameo but her half-baked character doesn't impress. Abhilash Thapliyal is truly a revelation. He completely aces the part and looks convincing.

Story line is gripping

Ajay's story is gripping but goes off track at some places. A bit of a restraint would have not harmed. Sudhir K. Chaudhary's cinematography is excellent as it creates a near-perfect setting in the hills, and captures each element in a manner that it stays in sync with the storyline.

Blurr subtly manages to address mental health issues, societal pressure and the fear of rejection that often push a person to extreme acts. Blurr keeps you engaged right from the word go, and dives straight into being a dark, edgy thriller.

The film is now streaming on Zee5.
