Taron Egerton admits to Marvel meeting over potential Wolverine role

Due to Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox, Marvel Studios now has several roles to cast in the MCU, from teams like X-Men to the Fantastic Four. Of course, this includes fan-favourite Wolverine, who was portrayed by Hugh Jackman over the course of seventeen years.

One of the frontrunners for the role is Kingsman’s Taron Egerton, who confirmed meetings with Kevin Feige and other Marvel executives about a potential role.

“I don’t think it would be wrong to say [there have been meetings],” Egerton told the New York Times in an interview to promote his new Apple TV+ crime series Black Bird.

The Rocketman star told The New York Times about his desire to pick up the baton from Jackman and play the character central to both the X-Men and Avengers franchises.

Egerton got his big break in 2014, starring as the lead in Matthew Vaughn’s Kingsman: The Secret Service. He previously co-starred with Jackman in 2016’s Eddie the Eagle.

The star added: “I’d be excited but I’d be apprehensive as well because Hugh is so associated with the role that I’d wonder if it’d be very difficult for someone else to do it. But hopefully, if it does come around, they’ll give me a shot.”

Egerton, meanwhile, recently graced the West End stage in Cock and is returning to Apple TV+ after Black Bird to play a key figure in the creation of the video game phenomenon Tetris.
