Actor and talk show host Lakshmy Ramakrishnan has clarified her recent remarks after they were linked to the ongoing divorce controversy surrounding Tamil star Thalapathy Vijay. Her comments, made during a political event, spread quickly on social media. Some users believed she was indirectly criticising the actor.
However, Ramakrishnan has now cleared the air. She said her speech was misunderstood and wrongly linked to Vijay’s political entry and personal life.
The clarification comes at a time when Vijay’s separation from his wife, Sangeetha Sornalingam, is already drawing widespread attention online.
Lakshmy Ramakrishnan Clarifies Viral Remarks
Taking to X (Twitter), Ramakrishnan posted a detailed statement explaining what really happened. She said a few lines from her speech were taken out of context and later connected to issues that had nothing to do with her.
She wrote, “I know Vijay only as a respectful, calm and quiet co-artist, and I have always had deep respect for his mother. That is the extent of my personal knowledge. A few lines from a recent stage speech of mine were misinterpreted and wrongly linked to his political entry and now to his personal matters.”
She explained that the speech was given at a political gathering. During the event, she spoke generally about what qualities a good political leader should have. According to her, the remarks were not aimed at any specific person.
Ramakrishnan also said that when a newspaper asked for her reaction, she simply mentioned that people can separate a public figure’s personal life from their political role. However, the issue quickly grew online because Vijay’s personal life was already trending.
She also pointed out that the topic was receiving too much attention during the election season. The actress continued, “Let me also add- if the concern being expressed is truly about women’s rights, there are countless women facing abuse and injustice with no access to legal support, financial security, or even a next meal. They deserve our attention and advocacy just as much. This statement is only to clarify my stand and correct the misinterpretation.”
Why Her Speech Sparked Debate Online
During the political event, Ramakrishnan spoke about the responsibilities of political leaders. She said people should not enter politics just for personal ambition or survival. Instead, leaders should have a deep understanding of public problems.
She also said that someone helping people during a crisis must be trained for that role.
Her speech surfaced online around the same time that rumours about Vijay’s divorce began circulating again. Because of the timing, many social media users assumed her comments were aimed at the actor’s political journey.
Vijay recently launched his political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, which has brought him into the political spotlight along with his film career.
Inside Thalapathy Vijay And Sangeetha’s Divorce Case
For those unaware, Thalapathy Vijay and Sangeetha Sornalingam have been married for 27 years. The divorce case is now being heard at the Chengalpattu Family Court. Reports claim that Sangeetha has cited infidelity and mental cruelty in her petition. She has alleged that Vijay has been involved in an extramarital relationship with an unnamed actress since 2021.
On March 7, 2026, Sangeetha reportedly filed a fresh plea asking permission to continue living in their matrimonial home in Neelankarai while the case is ongoing. She said she feared losing accommodation during the legal process.
Meanwhile, Vijay briefly addressed the issue during a Women’s Day event on March 7, 2026. The actor asked his fans not to worry about his personal matters and said he would handle the situation himself.
Some reports also claim that Vijay may be considering an out-of-court settlement to keep family matters private. There is speculation about a possible Rs 250 crore alimony package, though there has been no official confirmation.
The next hearing in the case is scheduled for April 20, 2026. Vijay has reportedly been asked to appear in person.
