Thamma Box Office: Maddock Films gave fans a festive treat this Diwali with the release of Thamma. The horror-comedy stars Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. The film hit theatres on October 21, and viewers were excited to see how this myth-based supernatural story would perform.

Thamma Box Office Collection Day 1

On its first day, Thamma earned Rs 24.87 crore, according to Sacnilk. The film had little competition at the box office, with only Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat releasing alongside it. Despite the clear run, its opening was the last Maddock Horror Comedy Universe HIT.

Last year, Stree 2 opened at Rs 51.8 crore (without pre-release premieres), while Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 earned Rs 32 crore during the previous Diwali, even with competition from Ajay Devgn’s Singham Again.

About This Ayushmann Khurrana Starrer: Plot, Cast And More

Thamma tells the story of Alok (Ayushmann Khurrana), a journalist who meets the mysterious Tadaka (Rashmika Mandanna). His life changes when he gets caught in an ancient curse and turns into a vampiric creature called a “Betal.” The film shows his struggle to control his powers while trying to protect people from an age-old evil. Nawazuddin Siddiqui plays the villain Yakshasan and Paresh Rawal is Alok’s father. The film runs for about 2 hours and 30 minutes and mixes horror, mythology and dark comedy in a fresh way.

The film’s scale matches its story. Made on a production budget of around Rs 125 crore, the total cost including marketing is about Rs 145 crore. Shooting began in December 2024 in Delhi, Mumbai and Ooty and finished by mid-2025. Its visuals and supernatural plot were designed to entertain audiences looking for thrills this Diwali.

While Thamma had a decent opening at the box office, it still fell short of the benchmarks set by earlier Maddock Horror Comedy Universe films. Experts say that positive word-of-mouth and audience reactions in the coming days will be key to whether the film can match or beat the success of Stree 2 and other Diwali hits.
