Vivek Agnihotri’s The Bengal Files (set to release on September 5) is facing hurdles in West Bengal. Multiplex owners are reportedly refusing to screen the film due to political pressure. Producer and actor Pallavi Joshi has written to President Droupadi Murmu, asking for help to protect her rights and ensure the film reaches audiences.
Pallavi Joshi Appeals For Support From President Droupadi Murmu
Pallavi shared her urgent appeal on Instagram, saying she is worried. The actor-producer revealed that theatre owners are being intimidated and threatened by political groups and refusing to screen the film. She added that she is not asking for a favour, but wants her family’s safety and the right to show the film peacefully.
Pallavi explained that the film covers sensitive historical events like the Hindu genocide during Direct Action Day, the Noakhali horrors, and Partition trauma. She added that the Chief Minister had mocked the film early on, FIRs were filed, the trailer was blocked, and newspapers avoided ads. She described this situation as an “unofficial ban” in the state.
Pallavi also highlighted support from veteran actor Victor Banerjee and several Bengali organisations in India and abroad. They have petitioned for the film, calling it a story of survival and hope. She appealed to the President to ensure The Bengal Files can be screened without fear.
