The Game Awards 2024: Faker Adds Another Feather in the Cap, Wins 3rd Esports Athlete of The Year

The Game Awards 2024 just wrapped up with all the dust settled for this year. Astro Bot won the Game of the year and Best Game Direction award. Moreover, Balatro was crowned the Best Mobile Game with League of Legend taking the Best Esports game award. Talking about the players, Caseoh won the award for the Content Creator of The Year. And to no one’s surprise Faker became the Esports Athlete of the Year for a second time consecutively.

Faker Wins The Esports Athlete At The Game Awards 2024

Faker (real name Lee Sang-hyeok) is the greatest League of Legends player ever for the majority of the community. With the arguments for other great players holding less value as Faker continues to pick up more accolades. This South Korean players seem to have it all when it comes to League of Legends. His past achievements aside, this year alone has won him several accolades that only he can claim. 

Talking about his 2024 in detail, he kicked off the year in February by becoming the first player with 600 match wins in LCK. Moreover, this year alone he hit the milestones of becoming the first player ever with 3000 kills and 5000 assists in LCK, he is also the firs to have 100 wins in League of Legends World Championships. Talking about the World Championships, Faker has managed to pick up his fifth this year along with two MVP titles paired with his 500 kills stat. All of it, in one year. So him winning the Esports Athlete of The Year at The Game Awards was obvious, considering he was already crowned the PC Player of the Year by Esports awards.

Faker’s Esports Legacy

Over the years Faker has managed to pick up numerous awards, so much that listing him here is impossible, there are going to be a lot of missing ones. But one thing everyone can say with certainty is that his legacy is unrivaled. As per reports he earns a base salary of $3.1 million dollars for playing in Esports team T1, which he also partly owns. Moreover, the internet estimates his yearly earnings for over $6 million. 

To sum everything up, Faker is already cemented as the greatest League of Legends player and winning at The Game Awards 2024 was just another feather added to his cap.
