The Kerala Story sells unprecedented 32,000 tickets in national chains in advance, fifth highest for a Hindi film

The Kerala Story: If advance ticket sales is any indication, The Kerala Story has had a very good start. The three national multiplex chains, PVR, Inox and Cinepolis cumulatively sold over 32,000 tickets as on the midnight preceding its release. And while the film triggered controversy, the number of tickets sold are unprecedented for a film of this sort. The opening of the film, based on the advances, seems to be heading towards a number of over Rs 5 crores nett and it can go even higher.

Fifth highest advance booking of the year

With 32,000 tickets sold in national chains, The Kerala Story has secured the fifth highest advance bookings of the year, after Pathaan, Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar, Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan and Bholaa. It is well ahead of Shehzada, Selfiee and other Hindi films that released this year.

Earlier, films of this genre have have blown up at the box office. The Kashmir Files released last year, did an unprecedented business of almost Rs 250 crores nett in India.

The Kerala Story has The Guardians Of The Galaxy 3 as competition

The Kerala Story that releases today on May 5, is locking horns with a Hollywood biggie, The Guardians Of The Galaxy Volume 3. The latter, a Marvel release, has also registered good advance bookings. The cumulative collections look to go well over the Rs 10 crore nett in India. And exhibitors of India are certainly a happy lot.
