Paresh Rawal’s The Taj Story finally hit cinemas on October 31, 2025. The film arrived after weeks of legal issues and online debates. There was curiosity and controversy, and people expected strong discussions around history. But the film did not get a strong start at the box office. Audience attention is still going towards Thamma and Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat, which are performing strongly this weekend.
The film is directed by Tushar Amrish Goel. It follows Vishnu Das, an Agra tour guide who questions the popular belief that Emperor Shah Jahan built the Taj Mahal. He files a petition and asks for an excavation to find the truth. The film uses courtroom drama and emotional arguments. It tries to explore whether the history we read is always accurate.
The Taj Story Box Office Collection Day 2
The Taj Story earned an estimated Rs 1.80 crore on Saturday. This takes the total to around ₹2.70 crore in two days. The opening day figure was Rs 0.90 crore. Sunday may see a small jump, but the trend looks weak right now. The film is expected to cross Rs 3 crore by the weekend, but a strong turnaround looks unlikely unless reviews improve.

Controversy Surrounding This Paresh Rawal Starrer
The film faced controversy before its release. Two petitions claimed that the film distorted history and asked for a review of its certification. Paresh Rawal responded to the issue and defended the film.
Speaking to NDTV, he said, “That PIL wasn’t filed to stop the film. They just wanted the judiciary to watch it once. But the film already has a CBFC certificate. Even the judiciary understands all this; they’re not foolish. We never intended to create any Hindu-Muslim controversy. Would anyone invest so much money just to create communal trouble? You can cause a riot for far less!”
The film stars Paresh Rawal, Zakir Hussain, Amruta Khanvilkar, Namit Das and Sneha Wagh. Early reactions are mixed. Many viewers say the story had potential but needed tighter execution. The theme is sensitive and emotional, but the audience response so far has been lukewarm.
Right now, The Taj Story needs strong weekday numbers to stay stable. However, with big commercial releases still drawing crowds, the road ahead looks tough.
