Sarika, an Indian film veteran actress, began her acting career as a child artist at the age of five. She has been in various films and received two National Awards: one for Best Costume Design for the film Hey Ram in 2000 and another for Best Actress for English language film Parzania in 2005. However, her career was derailed three times due to various factors. Sarika disclosed the real reason for taking a break at the age of 25 in an interview.
She welcomed Shruti Haasan in 1986
Sarika had her first career sabbatical in 1986, when she and ex-husband Kamal Haasan welcomed their daughter Shruti Haasan. In the mid-2000s, she made a comeback with films such as Bheja Fry, Manorama Six Feet Under, and Parzania. In an interview, Sarika said, 'I felt that if you saw this, I am harming my life in a way. Every morning, you wake up, nothing happens, and you go back to sleep. So I made the decision at the moment to take a one-year break from profession. Go somewhere else and do something completely different.
Sarika had a live-in relationship before marriage
In terms of her personal life, Sarika had a live-in relationship and gave birth to Shruti Haasan without marrying. She then married actor Kamal Haasan in 1988. Sarika and Kamal, on the other hand, divorced in 2004 after 16 years of marriage. Sarika spoke to The Indian Express about taking her first leave at the age of 25 and explained the genuine reason for it. She revealed that she had given birth to her eldest daughter Shruti Haasan in 1986, and that because of her upbringing, she had to put a stop to her profession. Sarika complimented women who could balance job and family life as she couldn't be that good at it.
