The makers of the upcoming pan-India film Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups surprised fans and the film industry on Wednesday by announcing a sudden change in the movie’s release date. The film, which stars Yash in the lead role, will now be released in cinemas on June 4 instead of March 19.

According to the team, the delay happened due to the ongoing crisis in the Middle East. The makers felt that the situation there could affect the film’s release and business in that region. Because of this, they decided to push the release to a later date.

Interestingly, the shift helped Toxic avoid a major box office clash with Ranveer Singh’s upcoming film Dhurandhar 2. However, the new release date has now created another big clash with the romantic comedy Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, starring Varun Dhawan.

Toxic Release Date Creates Trouble For Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai

The romantic comedy Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai had already announced June 4, 2026, as its release date months ago. The film also features Mrunal Thakur and Pooja Hegde in key roles. Now, with Toxic moving to the same date, both films will compete at the box office. Since Toxic is a large-scale action drama with a massive budget, many believe it could affect the business of the romantic comedy.

A source quoted by Bollywood Hungama claimed that the team behind Varun Dhawan’s film was not informed about the new release date beforehand. The source said, “If a film has already locked a release slot and another filmmaker plans to come on the same day, it’s customary to inform the makers who had taken the date first. In this case, that didn’t happen. Varun Dhawan, director David Dhawan and producer Ramesh Taurani learned that Toxic: A Fairy Tale For Grown-Ups was arriving in the same week as their film only after actor Yash posted the news on social media.”

However, the production team behind Toxic has denied this claim and shared their version of events. A spokesperson from KVN Productions said the makers had already discussed the situation before making the announcement. The team reportedly contacted producer Ramesh Taurani once they realised the release dates might overlap. The conversation was facilitated by distributor Anil Thadani.

The spokesperson said the discussion happened in advance and both teams were aware that a clash was possible. The statement also added that the makers handled the matter in a friendly and transparent way because “they didn’t want” the other project to face the kind of uncertainty Toxic had earlier experienced.

About Yash’s Big-Budget Film

Directed by Geetu Mohandas, Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups is one of the most ambitious Indian films currently being made. In the film, Yash is expected to play a dual role. His characters are named Raya and Ticket. Raya appears as a rugged, bearded gangster operating in the underworld of post-colonial Goa. In contrast, Ticket is seen as a clean-shaven and stylish character who may represent a different phase of the story.

Because of this contrast, many fans have already started discussing possible storylines online. Some believe the characters could represent a father and son, while others think the film might explore different timelines in the life of one character.

The film is set between the 1940s and the 1970s and focuses on the rise of powerful criminal empires. Reports suggest the film has a huge budget of around Rs 1100–1200 crore, making it one of the most expensive Indian productions ever.

Toxic is being shot simultaneously in Kannada and English as part of its global release plan. The film also features a strong cast including Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Huma Qureshi and Tara Sutaria.
