Toxic Teaser: The teaser of Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups has caused a lot of buzz just days after its release. The 30-second clip shows Yash in an intimate scene inside a car, followed by “Daddy IS Home” dialogue that has created controversy.
The teaser has drawn sharp criticism from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The party claims it insults Kannada culture and exposes minors to inappropriate content. Leaders of AAP’s women’s wing filed a complaint with the Karnataka State Commission for Women (KSWC) on Monday. They have asked authorities to take strict action and ban/ remove the teaser from social media.
According to AAP state secretary Usha Mohan, the teaser contains obscene visuals that “degrade” the dignity of women and insult Kannada culture. The commission has written to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) asking for “appropriate action.” They also requested the state government to investigate and report back. The KSWC secretary said, “It is hereby requested to take further action on the subject mentioned in the petition after verifying it as per rules and to submit an action-taken report in this regard.”
Director Geetu Mohandas Responds To Toxic Teaser Backlash
Director Geetu Mohandas had addressed the controversy on January 8 via Instagram Stories. She defended the teaser, saying she was “chilling while people figure out female pleasure, consent, women playing systems, etc.”
She also shared an image of actress Beatriz Bach, calling her the “cemetery girl” from the teaser. Mohandas suggested the character has a deeper role in the story beyond the brief intimate scene. Yash has not made any public statements about the backlash.
The teaser was released on January 8 to coincide with Yash’s birthday. Apart from the car scene, it also shows Yash in high-octane action sequences, hinting at the film’s mix of adult themes and stylised violence.
