Yash starrer upcoming pan-India action film Toxic is once again making headlines due to teaser controversy. The short glimpse featuring an intimate car scene and a violent cemetery shootout has now drawn criticism from a Christian group. Read on to know more!
Christian Body Files Complaint, Demands Removal Of Toxic Teaser
The National Christian Federation (NCF) has filed a formal complaint with the Film Chamber of Commerce, the state government and the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The group claims the teaser hurts religious sentiments, particularly because it depicts Michael, the Archangel, alongside scenes of sex and violence. The complaint says these portrayals are inappropriate and disrespectful to religious beliefs.
The NCF has demanded that the scenes be removed immediately and called for the teaser to be taken down from YouTube and other platforms. Toxic teaser was released last month by KVN Productions and also revealed Yash’s first look from the film.
About Toxic Teaser Controversy
This is not the first time the Toxic teaser has caused a stir. The dirty car scene outside a cemetery had already sparked complaints, with many viewers calling it unnecessary and distasteful. Some alleged the sequence outraged the modesty of women. Actress Beatriz Taufenbach (who appears in the teaser) even deleted her Instagram account amid the backlash.
DON'T MISS
However, the film has also received support from filmmakers. At the 17th Bengaluru International Film Festival, during a session titled Fearless Film Making, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap defended the teaser. He praised it as an extremely courageous attempt and criticised double standards in audience reactions.
Kashyap said, “The outrage expressed against the teaser reveals our cultural hypocrisy. When male actors appear shirtless on screen or display excessive machismo, no one questions it. But when a woman celebrates her sexuality, it becomes hard to accept.”
