Tudum 2022: Babil Khan’s Qala to Vishal Bhardwaj’s Khufiya, here’s what Netflix has in store

New Delhi: The long-awaited global Tudum fan event from Netflix has arrived. At the international event, the streaming juggernaut revealed some of the most eagerly awaited movies and web series. Netflix has a wide variety of content available, ranging from Kathal, Guns And Gulaabs, and Monica to O My Darling, Scoop, and Monica. Take a look at all the movies and TV shows that Netflix India has unveiled during its worldwide fan event Tudum.

Monica, O My Darling

Radhika Apte, who played the lead in Monica, O My Darling, opened the show with an enormous musical performance starring Rajkummar Rao and Huma Qureshi (who, as you may have seen in the programme, didn’t fully see herself in her role). A neo-noir thriller, the film features lust, blackmail, betrayal, blood, a whodunnit, and some robots crushing human skulls. It is about the perfect scheme that goes horribly wrong. In this crime drama, which was directed by Vasan Bala and made by Matchbox Shots, Sikandar Kher, Sukant Goel, Zayn Marie Khan, Bhagawati Perumal, and Akansha Ranjan Kapoor also appear.

Rana Naidu

The real-life uncle-nephew team of Rana Daggubati and Venkatesh Daggubati, who portray a father and son in the series, came on next with Rana Naidu. They talked on the teaser’s general appeal and what viewers may expect from Rana Naidu (“a whole lot of action, a whole lot of thrills”). Rana Naidu, which takes place in Mumbai, tells the story of a man who fixes problems for the city’s most influential citizens. The drama begins, though, when his father is abruptly let out of jail, starting a series of events that could completely alter the situation. Produced by Locomotive Global Inc and Sunder Aaron and Directed by Karan Anshuman and Suparn S Varma, this thrilling series stars

Khufiya

A behind-the-scenes look into Khufiya was shown after Rana Naidu, and Vishal Bhardwaj, one of India’s most renowned filmmakers, gave the introduction. Khufiya is based on the book Escape to Nowhere, which was written by an ex-spy and was inspired by actual events, according to Bhardwaj. This spy drama features strong actors like Tabu, Ali Fazal, Wamiqa Gabbi, and Ashish Vidyarthi.

Class

Following brief appearances by Rana Naidu and Khufiya, Tudum India transported the audience to an exclusive classroom where the host PrajaktaKoli revealed the Class series teaser. When three new students from a radically different background enrol for a new term at the elite Hampton International, the dynamics at the school experience an abrupt transformation that upends the status quo. Class, directed by Ashim Ahluwalia and starring Gurfateh Pirzada, Anjali Sivaraman, Ayesha Kanga, Cyaawal Singh, Chintan Rach, Chayan Chopra, Madhyama Segal, Moses Koul, Naina Bhan, Piyush Khati, and Zeyn Shaw, is produced by Sukesh Motwani, Mautik Tolia, and Persis Siganporia. A high school play is held to a higher standard when it has class!

Scoop

Koli then went to the newsroom to introduce Scoop, a show that is based on the true account of what happens when a reporter is shot and killed in broad daylight. The series, which was based on Jigna Vora’s book Behind the Bars in Byculla: My Days in Prison, was given a sneak preview to the public. Scoop follows the story of successful crime reporter Jagruti Pathak, whose life implodes when she is accused of killing another journalist and the truth is covertly suppressed while she awaits trial. Scoop, which is directed by Hansal Mehta and starring Karishma Tanna, Mohammad Zeeshan Ayyub, Harman Baweja, Deven Bhojani, Tannishtha Chatterjee, and Tejasvini, is made by Matchbox Shots, Sanjay Routray, and Sarita Patil.

Kathal

True crime doesn’t necessarily include murder, of course. The following segment of the Tudum India show featured a humorous introduction to Kathal, which is Hindi for “jackfruit”. It’s lightly based on a true incident — when a local politician’s prized jackfruits go missing, it turns into a bizarre case that falls into the lap of a young and earnest police officer, played by Sanya Malhotra. Kathal marks the directorial debut of Yashowardhan Mishra and is produced by Sikhya Entertainment and Balaji Telefilms.

Soup

Manoj Bajpayee introduced the programme while chowing down on soup (who also happens to be one of the stars). Soup, a film by Abhishek Chaubey, follows chef Swathi Shetty as she devises a strategy to have her boyfriend take the place of her husband. Her efforts could backfire though if a clueless town inspector and a group of evil meddlers get involved. Abhishek Chaubey is the film’s director, and Honey Trehan and Chetana Kowshik are its producers. Manoj Bajpayee, Konkona Sensharma, Nasser, Sayaji Shinde, and Lal are among the stars of this unique thriller.

CAT

The subject of the next Tudum India sneak peek was a CAT. In this instance, though, a CAT is a real person—Randeep Hooda is portraying a former civilian informant. The teaser offers viewers a preview of the grim story. In order to save his brother, Gurnam is compelled to revert to his previous informant role, which compels him to confront his sinister past. CAT, which unites a strong three, was produced by Balwinder Singh Janjua and Panchali Chakraverty and directed by Jimmy Singh, Rupinder Chahal, and Balwinder Singh.

Qala

To put it mildly, the Tudum India debut of the Qala teaser was intriguing. It was eerie, strong, and also loaded with fantastic music. The story of the youthful titular playback singer is told in Qala, which is set in the 1930s and the late 1940s. It’s about her tragic past and the ways in which it catches up with her, causing her to unravel at the peak of her hard-won success. Directed by Anvitaa Dutt and produced by Karnesh Ssharma, Qala stars Triptii Dimri, Swastika Mukherjee, Babil Khan and Amit Sial.

Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga

Don’t be fooled by presenter Koli’s cheesy flight attendant introduction; the serious business that is Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga, starring Yami Gautam, Sunny Kaushal, and Sharad Kelkar, and produced by Maddock Films, is not to be taken lightly. The action-packed tale follows a flight attendant and her business partner as they attempt to escape a loan shark’s grasp by stealing gems. The theft, however, goes tragically wrong and develops into a hostage situation at 40,000 feet in the air. Chaos results, as fans could see from the Tudum India sneak look.

Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairy Tale

This special about one of India’s most deeply private yet immensely adored Superstars felt like a welcome addition to the Tudum India schedule after all the unexpected jokes, dramatic drama, and over-the-top musical moments. The programme centres on Nayanthara’s love story, who recently wed filmmaker Vignesh Shivan in a fairy tale wedding. The Tudum India audience got an inside look into their lives, marriages, and other aspects of their existence in Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairy Tale. For the special created by The Rowdy Pictures, renowned director Gautam Vasudevan assumes the job of director.

Guns & Gulaabs

The debut trailer for Raj & DK and D2R Films’ production, Guns & Gulaabs, closed out the presentation. It is a genre-defying dark comedy set in the 1990s in a small Indian town. Guns & Gulaabs will feature crime, romance, and a tonne of nostalgia for the mid-1990s, according to actor Dulquer Salmaan. That promise is fulfilled by the teaser: If you’ve ever wondered what death-by-wrench looks like, read on to the very end. Rajkummar Rao, Adarsh Gourav, TJ Bhanu, and Gulshan Devaiah are also featured in Guns & Gulaabs.
