About the wrestler’s protest

Over a month ago, prominent wrestlers in India, including Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik, and Vinesh Phogat, initiated a protest demanding the resignation of Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the Chief of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI). Singh, who is also a Member of Parliament from the ruling party BJP, has been accused of sexual assault by seven female wrestlers, one of whom is a minor athlete. The protesting wrestlers have been calling for his immediate arrest and resignation from his position. Despite the allegations, Singh has denied them and expressed his willingness to undergo a narco test to prove his innocence.

During the inauguration of the new Parliament building by Prime Minister Modi, the protesting wrestlers at Jantar Mantar attempted to march towards the new building but were stopped by heavy security in central Delhi. Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia were both detained by the Delhi Police as they tried to march towards the new Parliament building. Videos of them being carried and confronted by authorities circulated on social media, causing widespread outrage.
