Actor Urvashi Rautela has found herself at the center of a social media controversy following her recent comment about a temple being built in her name near the sacred Badrinath Dham. The remark triggered widespread reactions, with some alleging that it disrespected religious sentiments.

Urvashi Rautela’s Team Responds to Backlash Over ‘Temple’ Remark in Uttarakhand

The statement in question came during an interview with Siddharth Kannan, where Urvashi said, “There is a temple in my name in Uttarakhand. If one visits Badrinath, there is a ‘Urvashi temple’ right next to it.” The clip quickly went viral, drawing criticism from religious groups and locals.

Actress’s Temple Remark Sparks Outrage, Team Responds

In response to the growing backlash, Rautela’s team issued an official clarification, urging the public to watch the full video before jumping to conclusions. “Urvashi Rautela said that there is a temple in my name in Uttarakhand, not Urvashi Rautela’s temple. Now people don’t even listen to things properly; just hearing ‘Urvashi’ or ‘temple,’ they assume that people worship Urvashi Rautela. Listen to the video properly and then speak,” the statement said.

The team emphasized that the actress was referring to a temple named 'Urvashi' — which holds cultural relevance — and not a temple dedicated to her personally. They further addressed earlier instances where Urvashi was colloquially referred to as ‘Damdami Mai’ at Delhi University, citing a news report on the same.

The statement also called for legal action against those allegedly spreading misinformation about her comments. “It is essential that before making baseless allegations or derogatory comments against any individual, the facts are thoroughly verified. Everyone in society should treat each other with respect and understanding so that everyone’s rights can be protected,” it added.

Meanwhile, several priests and local residents in Uttarakhand have expressed concern over her statement, pointing out the sacred nature of the Badrinath region and warning against attempts to misrepresent or commercialize religious sentiments. Some have even demanded government action.

This controversy comes amid growing scrutiny over how public figures frame references to sacred spaces, with religious groups urging for greater sensitivity and accuracy in public discourse.
