Vidya Balan birthday: Vidya Balan, undoubtedly one of the most versatile actors in Bollywood, turned a year older today on January 1. The Government of India honoured her with the prestigious Padma Shri award in 2014 for her contributions to the film industry.

Vidya who made her big Bollywood debut in 2005, has delivered some outstanding performances in her career. Here we take a look at her top 5 performances.

Parineeta

Helmed by Pradeep Sarkar, this film is an adaptation of Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s 1914 Bengali novel of the same name. Starring Vidya Balan and Saif Ali Khan, Parineeta had Sanjay Dutt in a pivotal role in the film. Veteran actor Rekha had a cameo appearance in the film. Vidya marked her Bollywood debut with ‘Parineeta’ and received massive responses for her performance in the film.

Bhool Bhulaiyaa

The psychological thriller released in the year 2007 was directed by Priyadarshan. Starring Vidya Balan, Akshay Kumar, Ameesha Patel, and Shiney Ahuja, it was a blockbuster. Vidya’s role as Manjulika was iconic and blew the minds of critics and audiences alike.

The Dirty Picture

Vidya Balan received a National Award for her performance in the biopic film based on the life of actor Silk Smitha. Directed by Milan Luthria, the film also starred Emraan Hashmi, Naseeruddin Shah and Tusshar Kapoor in prominent roles and was a blockbuster.

Kahaani

This thriller was released in the year 2012 with Vidya and Parambratta Chatterjee in the lead roles. Directed by Sujoy Ghosh, Vidya portrayed the role of a pregnant woman looking for her missing husband in Kolkata. Kahaani was a super hit.

Tumhari Sullu

Released in the year 2017, the comedy-drama film was helmed by Suresh Triveni and starred Vidya and actor Manav Kaul in the lead roles. The ‘Sherni’ actor portrayed the role of a housewife who turns into a radio jockey for a late-night relationship advice show. The film was both a commercial and critical success. Vidya received a lot of appreciation from the audience for her performance in the film.

Vidya Balan’s upcoming films include Neeyat and another untitled movie directed by Shirsha Guha Thakurta.
