As actor Vijay’s birthday nears, excitement is building among fans for his upcoming film Jana Nayagan, which is expected to be his final cinematic outing before he transitions full-time into politics. The film, directed by H Vinoth, is already drawing immense anticipation. On Friday, the makers officially announced that the ‘First Roar’ of Jana Nayagan will be unveiled at midnight on June 22, as a special treat for the star’s birthday.

H Vinoth Directs Vijay for the First Time

Best known for his collaborations with Ajith Kumar (Nerkonda Paarvai, Valimai, Thunivu), H Vinoth is now directing Vijay for the first time. The film is bankrolled by KVN Productions. While plot details are tightly under wraps, there’s significant buzz that Jana Nayagan is a remake of the Telugu film Bhagavanth Kesari starring Nandamuri Balakrishna. However, the production team has not confirmed this officially.

Release Date Shifted to Pongal 2026

Initially slated for release in October this year, Jana Nayagan will now hit theatres on January 9, 2026, just in time for Pongal. This change has only heightened expectations, as Pongal has historically been a blockbuster window for Tamil cinema.

Vijay and Pooja Hegde Reunite

The film also marks the second collaboration between Vijay and Pooja Hegde, who were last seen together in Beast (2022), directed by Nelson Dilipkumar. Fans can currently watch Beast streaming on SunNXT and OTTplay Premium. In the action-thriller, Vijay played a former RAW agent caught in a mall hijack situation.

Meanwhile, fans can revisit other Vijay hits like Ghilli and Youth—now streaming on OTTplay Premium—as they await the midnight reveal of Jana Nayagan’s first roar.
