Viral Video: Weddings in India aren't complete without the "band, baaja, and baraat." But when we use the phrase "band, baaja, baraat," we usually mean the grooms. However, a bride from Uttar Pradesh defied convention by leading her "baraat" (wedding procession) while seated on a horse-drawn cart.
A video of the unique ritual is winning the internet and is being widely shared on social media. This incident was reported from Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh. Simran, the bride, attended the marriage ceremony with her family and friends while wearing a red lehenga and matching turban.
Simran revealed, "It is a common ritual here that the groom usually rides a horse. Today, the bride is on the horse. I have never been treated like a daughter. My family always supported me. They wanted to send out a message of encouragement to all those girls who think they are not as good as boys." Notably, Simran had just recently returned from the UAE after working there for almost two years. Monday was the day of the wedding. The bride is the only child of farmer Pintu Chaudhary.
