Akshaye Khanna is widely recognised as one of Hindi cinema’s most talented actors. Yet, despite appearing in many iconic films, people often ask why he never reached the superstardom of his peers.
In an old interview, Dhurandhar actor shared his thoughts on fame, success and destiny. He explained why he is content with his journey.
Akshaye Khanna On Stardom
Talking about comparisons with other actors, Akshaye said becoming a superstar is not only about talent. It also depends on getting the right films at the right time.
He told Anurradha Prasad, “As an actor, it’s the films that make you a superstar. You need blockbusters like Gadar, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, or Hum Aapke Hain Koun! to become a star. You can only try your best, but whether those films come your way is out of your control.”
He gave a business analogy too.“It’s like being a businessman with a 500 crore business. But unless you become Ratan Tata or Dhirubhai Ambani, does that mean you’re not successful? If I don’t become Shah Rukh Khan, does that mean I haven’t seen success or become a star?”
Dhurandar Actor’s Preference Of Contentment Over Conventional Fame
When asked if he ever felt sad for not becoming a conventional superstar, Akshaye said firmly, “No, never. What hasn’t God given me?”
People sometimes see him as reserved or living in a cocoon. Akshaye clarified, “I’m not that type of person.” He said his quiet nature should not be mistaken for unhappiness.
How Akshaye Khanna Made Powerful Comeback With Chhaava And Dhurandhar This Year
Akshaye is now receiving widespread praise for his role in Dhurandhar, which released on December 5, 2025. The film stars Ranveer Singh, Arjun Rampal, R Madhavan, Sara Arjun, and Rakesh Bedi.
In the film, he plays Rehman Dakait, a feared Pakistani gangster and political figure. His role was initially small, but his strong presence and viral dance entry to the track “FA9LA” made director Aditya Dhar expand his part. Critics and audiences have called him the film’s “undisputed scene-stealer,” with many comparing his comeback to Bobby Deol’s resurgence.
2025 has been a big year for Akshaye. After his praised portrayal of Aurangzeb in the historical film Chhaava, Dhurandhar became a massive hit, earning over Rs 588 crore globally and Rs 400 crore net in India by mid-December. His consecutive successes have proven that real talent shines, even beyond lead roles.
