Actor Ahaan Panday has opened up about a painful phase in his life that began soon after the huge success of Saiyaara. The young actor revealed that he underwent one of the most painful surgeries after the film’s release. The decision, he admitted, could have affected his fitness and future projects.
In an interview with Esquire India, Ahaan spoke honestly about his health struggle. “I don’t know if I should say this. I actually got a whole surgery done after the release of Saiyaara last year. And it’s one of the most painful surgeries you can do, with the longest recovery time,” he shared.

The injury was not recent. Ahaan had suffered a shoulder subluxation a few years ago after a snowmobile accident. Although he managed the pain for a long time, it started affecting his workouts and strength training. For an actor in the early stages of his career, fitness plays a key role. So, he decided to fix the issue permanently.

However, the surgery came with a serious warning. Ahaan revealed that his doctor told him his body would go back to zero after the operation. It would be nearly impossible to regain the same physique he had built for the screen.
Despite this, Ahaan chose recovery over appearance. He said, “I used to feel motivated by actors who had dramatic gym transformations. But that was usually from a certain unhealthy body type to a healthy one. This was different; I went from being injured, to not being able to move, to not being able to lift, to being able to lift.”
For months, he wore a cast and stayed away from heavy training. Most people did not even know about it. Still, a few fans sensed something was wrong. They even reached out to his mother, Deanne Panday, on social media and questioned why she seemed to be losing weight. During this time, Ahaan was quietly focusing on healing and slowly rebuilding his strength.
About Saiyaara’s Success And His Next Film
Ahaan became a household name with Saiyaara, produced by Yash Raj Films and directed by Mohit Suri. The musical romance was a massive hit and earned over Rs 570 crore worldwide. Audiences loved the soulful songs and his chemistry with co-star Aneet Padda. The film’s success also won Ahaan the Best Debutant Actor award at the NDTV Indian of the Year event. It marked a strong start to his career.
Now, Ahaan will star in an untitled action-romance directed by Ali Abbas Zafar and produced by Aditya Chopra. The film will also feature Sharvari in a key role. At present, Ahaan is training for nearly seven hours a day. His routine includes hand-to-hand combat and weapons training to prepare for a more intense and rugged role. Shooting is scheduled to begin on March 30 with major scenes planned in Mumbai and the UK.
