Year Ender 2025: Most Underrated Films That Deserved More Love

Mrs.

Sanya Malhotra delivered one of her finest performances in Mrs, a Hindi remake of the Malayalam film The Great Indian Kitchen. The film offered a sharp and honest look at the daily struggles of women trapped in patriarchal homes.

It was released directly on ZEE5, which limited its reach. Still, the movie stood out for its powerful storytelling and emotional honesty.

Superboys of Malegaon

Reema Kagti’s Superboys of Malegaon was a warm and inspiring coming-of-age drama. It followed a group of young boys who tried to bring hope to their small town by making local films.

Despite glowing reviews and an impressive IMDb rating, it opened poorly at the box office because it lacked star power. The movie is now streaming on Prime Video and is worth every minute.

The Mehta Boys

This film explored a complicated father-son relationship with humour, emotion, and authenticity. Boman Irani and Avinash Tiwary were the heart of the story, giving performances full of charm and depth.

Even with its engaging narrative, The Mehta Boys did not reach a wide audience. You can watch it on Prime Video.

Stolen

Stolen was one of the most gripping thrillers of the year. The story followed two brothers who witnessed a baby being taken and found themselves in a dangerous situation. It was raw, tense and incredibly realistic.

After premiering at film festivals, the movie earned strong reviews and is now available on Netflix.

Kaalidhar Laapata

Starring Abhishek Bachchan and Nimrat Kaur, this film told a unique story about a man suffering from a degenerative disease who decides to vanish after learning his family wants to abandon him. It was emotional, layered and very moving.

Sadly, it stayed under the radar. You can stream it on ZEE5.

Homebound

Homebound followed two childhood friends from a small village trying to secure police jobs and gain respect. With performances by Ishaan Khatter, Vishal Jethwa, and Janhvi Kapoor, the film captured the dreams and struggles of small-town life with honesty. It is streaming on Netflix.

Chidiya

This gentle and sweet film tells the story of two young brothers who dream of becoming badminton players despite their limited resources. The simplicity and heart of Chidiya made it stand out. The movie is available on ZEE5.

These films may not have dominated the charts, but they left a lasting impression. As we close the chapter on 2025, these underrated stories remind us that great cinema does not always need glitz or hype. Sometimes, it just needs heart.
