What you need for this healthy recipe?

  • 1 big, ripe wood apple (bel fruit)
  • About 700–1000 ml of cold water (eyeball it)
  • 2–4 spoons of sugar or jaggery (it is up to you how sweet you want it)
  • 1 teaspoon of black salt
  • 1–2 teaspoons of roasted cumin (jeera) powder
  • Juice from 1 lemon
  • Mint leaves (if you're feeling fancy)
  • Ice

How to make it

  1. Smash that wood apple open. It's got a hard shell, so you might need some muscle.
  2. Scoop all the pulp from inside into a bowl.
  3. Add a little water and start mashing. You need to separate the stringy stuff from the pulp. Your hands work fine, or you can use a potato masher.
  4. Add the rest of the water and mix it up.
  5. Strain the whole thing through a sieve. This gets rid of the seeds and fibers.
  6. Now, stir in your sugar and jaggery, black salt, cumin powder, and lemon juice. Mix it until it all dissolves
  7. Serve it over ice, throw in some mint leaves if you want to feel fancy, and you're done!
