Courtroom Drama Unfolds! Wrestlers Cleared of Hate Speech Allegations by Delhi Police

Wrestlers Protest

In an unexpected turn of events, the Delhi Police presented an Action Taken Report (ATR) to the court regarding the alleged hate speech by protesting wrestlers. The court’s plea that stemmed from a request to file an FIR against the athletes for purported false accusations against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, President of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), has been dismissed by the police.

“No Offense Committed” says Delhi Police

Delhi Police’s thorough scrutiny of video evidence concluded that the wrestlers had refrained from raising any slogans or propagating hate speech. This determination effectively debunks the allegations of hate speech levelled against the wrestlers. As a result of these findings, the Delhi Police has appealed to the court to disregard the original application.

While the court has provisionally accepted the report from the Delhi Police, the plea is slated for further discussion on July 7th. This decision follows the court’s prior instruction for the police to submit an ATR in response to the initial complaint.

The original complaint was lodged by Bam Bam Maharaj Nauhatiya, the national chief of the ‘Atal Jan Party’. Prominent wrestlers such as Vinesh Phogat, Bajrang Punia, and Sakshi Malik were among the athletes named in the application.

The saga surrounding this case provides a compelling glimpse into the intersection of sports and law. As these athletes continue to battle in the court of public opinion and the legal system, stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
