Covid-19 India update: Coronavirus tally crosses 98.54 lakh

India has recorded fresh 27,376 covid-19 cases in last 24-hour, which is country’s lowest single-day spike in five months. With new additions, India’s overall tally rose to 98.54 lakh. Meanwhile, the number of people who have defeated the virus reached to 93.57 lakh. the latest update from the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said.

A total of 15,45,66,990 samples tested for COVID-19 up to 13th December. Of these, 8,55,157 samples were tested yesterday: Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

As India prepares for a vaccination drive, states and UTs have been sent operation guidelines by the Union Ministry of Health before it becomes available. The document shared with states mentions basic rules such as how many people are to be vaccinated at one site in one day and who are the first ones to get the vaccine.

As of now, it has been said that only 100 people per “session” at each site will get vaccine, however, the number of people per “session” might go up by 100 to 200 once the process starts.

“If in any case, more than 200 people are being vaccinated within a session then a whole team of 5 people will have to be deployed separately (one vaccine officer and four vaccination officers),” the draft SOP read.

* Director of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Robert Redfield has said that he has signed recommendation of a key CDC advisory group to use the Covid-19 Pfizer and BioNTech’s vaccine.

The US will start its vaccine drive from Monday.

* The fatality toll from the Covid-19 pandemic in the African continent has surpassed the grim mark of 55,989, the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) said.

*Russia has recorded 28,080 more Covid-19 cases over the past 24 hours, the country’s coronavirus response centre said.

* With 1,196 new cases in a day, the number of Covid patients in Karnataka crossed 9-lakh mark to touch 9,01,410 by Saturday.

*First batch of Pfizer/BioNTech’s covid-19 vaccine has arrived in Canada.

Meanwhile, the overall number of global covid-19 cases has reached 72.2 million, while the casualties have surged to more than 1.61 million, according to the Johns Hopkins University.
