Covid-19 update: India records 88,600 fresh cases

India recorded surge in Covid-19 cases once again with fresh infections crossing 88,600 on Saturday, the highest this week. 1,124 fatalities were reported in the last 24-hour, the health ministry said.

Single-day spike of 88,600 new Covid-19 cases and 1,124 deaths reported in India, in the last 24 hours. Covid-19 case tally stands at 59,92,533 including 9,56,402 active cases, 49,41,628 cured/discharged/migrated and 94,503 deaths: Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.

7,12,57,836 samples tested up to September 26 for Covid-19. Of these, 9,87,861 samples were tested yesterday: Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

Maharashtra’s Covid-19 cases mounted to 20,419 on Saturday, taking its tally count to 13,21,176. The state registered 430 new fatalities on Saturday and with this the state’s death toll now stands at 35,191.

93 deaths and 4,180 Covid-19 positive cases reported yesterday in Pune, taking total cases to 2,73,012 including 6,220 deaths, said Pune Zilha Parishad.

Here are some more updates related to the novel coronavirus:

*BJP national vice president Uma Bharti tested positive for Covid-19. She has been quarantined at Vande Mataram Kunj between Haridwar and Rishikesh.

*A covid-19 awareness campaign has been organised in Lucknow and 100 Police teams were flagged as a part of it.

*Now we have 110 PPE manufacturers in India, producing over 5 lakh/day. States who used to cry about not getting adequate number of PPEs, now say they don’t have place to keep them when we talk about sending PPEs: Union Health Mininister Harsh Vardhan at 79th Foundation Day of CSIR.

*Union health minister Dr Harsh Varshan in a tweet said it is heartwarming how various ministries, civil society and the entire scientific community has joined hands in the fight against Covid-19.

Meanwhile, the overall number of global coronavirus cases has topped 32.7 million, while the deaths have increased to more than 992,000, according to the Johns Hopkins University.

As of Sunday morning, the total number of cases stood at 32,746,134 and the fatalities rose to 992,946, the University’s Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed in its latest update.
