Covid-19 update: India reports 36,604 cases, 488 deaths

In a landmark development, India on Monday recorded the lowest covid-19 cases in more than three months. With 36,604 cases, India recorded its lowest in 101 days as the previous low was reported on July 17 when 35,065 cases were reported.

With fresh new additions, the total cases has reached 79,46,429. The death toll currently stands at 1,19,502 with 488 fatalities reported in last 24-hour.

 India’s recovery rate continues to rise and now stands at 90.23 percent even as cases in states like Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.

 ICMR has tested a total of 10,44,20,894 samples tested for COVID-19 up to October 26. Of these 9,58,116 samples were tested on October 25: Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR)

Total 63,842 patients recovered in the last 24 hours, taking the total discharges to 72,01,070. India at present has 6,25,857 active COVID-19 cases, said Health Ministry.

*Mainland China reported 16 new confirmed covid-19 cases on October 26, the health authorities said. The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in China now stands at 85,826, while the death toll remained unchanged at 4,634.

*The Rajasthan government is planning to bring a bill in the upcoming assembly session which intends to make wearing face masks mandatory.

*Spain added over 50,000 cases of covid-19 during weekend, the health ministry data showed on Monday. The overall fatality toll from the virus jumped by 279 to 35,031, the data showed.

*“India has one of the lowest fatality rates in the world. The case fatality rate is lowest since March 22 and is continuously declining,” health ministry said.

*Former Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis received first dose of 200ml plasma on Sunday and second on Monday.

Meanwhile, the overall number of global coronavirus cases has increased to over 43.3 million, while the deaths have surged to more than 1,158,880, according to the Johns Hopkins University.
