Covid-19 update: India reports below 30,000 for first time since July

India's covid-19 cases stood below 30,000 on Monday after almost 5 months. The country recorded 29,164 covid-19 in the last 24-hour, taking the country's total tally to 88.74 lakh.With 449 new fatalities, the death toll have soared high to 1.30,519. The last time covid-19 count was reported below 30,000 was on July 15, when India logged 29,429 daily infections.

As of now, India's active case load stands at 4.53 lakh with 40,791 more people recuperating from the virus in last 24-hour. India has also witnessed more daily recoveries than cases for a month now which has pushed country's recovery rate to 93.4 per cent. The total recovered cases in India stand at 82,90,371.

Delhi remained the worst-hit state as it logged in 3,797 new cases and 99 more fatalities on Monday. Last week, the city's average daily stood at 7,000. The decrease in number of cases can be credited to lower testing as the number of samples tested halved to 30,000 despite orders to increase it to 1 lakh per day.

*Delhi, Kerala, Maharashtra and Rajasthan account for almost 49 per cent of the total caseload in the country.

*Even as covid-19 cases increase in the National Capital, Health Minister Satyendra Jain has denied the possibility of imposing another lockdown. He said the city has already passed its third wave of covid-19 infections and will see downward trend only.

 “The virus cannot be contained through lockdown, people should protect themselves by wearing face masks. I can tell you the peak of the third wave is gone,” he said.

* In a major breakthrough, Moderna's vaccine candidate against the novel coronavirus has shown an efficacy of 94.5 per cent.

*Covaxin, being developed by Bharat Biotech, is now undergoing phase-3 trials, Krishna Ella, Chairman and Managing Director, Bharat Biotech said Monday.

*WHO has reported 65 COVID-19 infections at Geneva HQ since pandemic began.

*Telangana adds 952 new cases, 3 deaths in last 24 hours.

*Bengaluru, which accounts for about 50 per cent of Covid tally in Karnataka, reported 597 new cases on a single day, while 833 were discharged, taking its recoveries to 3,35,938 so far.

*Canada's Covid-19 cases have surpassed 300,000 while death toll stands at 11,007.

*Chinese mainland reported 15 new imported Covid-19 cases on Monday, taking the total number of imported cases to 3,716, the National Health Commission said on Tuesday.

* Iran's Health Minister Saeed Namaki said on Monday that four Iranian companies have started human trials of Covid-19 vaccine

Meanwhile,  the overall number of global coronavirus cases has topped 54.8 million while the death toll have mounted to 1,325,750, reported the Johns Hopkins University.
